DockYard is looking for a Ruby on Rails Developer (Contract).

The Role

The Ruby on Rails Contractor will work independently and/or with other engineers to maintain a large-scale Ruby on Rails legacy codebase.


The ideal candidate is self-driven and passionate about web technologies and industry best practices, and has a strong understanding of how to interface with clients.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently or with other engineers to maintain a large-scale Ruby on Rails legacy codebase.
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders and other engineering teams to understand business goals, analyze requirements, and partner on solutions.
  • Assist in scoping, estimating, and planning of projects.
  • Participate in project planning, standups, code review, improvement suggestions, and other team activities.

Job requirements

Must Haves

  • 3-5 years of experience in Ruby on Rails development
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
  • Understands best practices for web development and software design, and relishes opportunities to transform complex, legacy codebases into robust, scalable, and maintainable systems
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Basic familiarity with using Docker
  • Familiarity with building APIs with Grape
  • Prior client services, consulting, or freelancing experience
  • Experience working in a remote team
